H4S Tour the Leeper Clinic at Western University

By Ken Dodge:

On April 27th, 2023 a small group of us arrived at 9:00 AM for the tour. We were met by Zack Armstrong who took us inside to meet our tour guides.

We were divided into 2 groups, each with a professor and a couple of students to take us through the facility.

Just as we entered, right in the reception area I noticed the plaques on the wall. See below.

Top middle is Dr. Leeper, right below him is Cam Miller, London barbershopper and past trustee and Vice Chairman of the Harmonize for Speech Fund.

Top right is the “SPEBSQSA Graduate Awards”, under that is the

“Dr. Leeper Memorial Awards”.

Top left is the “Harmonize for Speech Awards”. Under that is a picture of the

London Chorus along with, in the middle, George Shields, Dr. Orange and Cam Miller.

Under that is a picture of the

“London Chapter Men of Accord, Ontario District Champions in 1988”.

We then moved on to the tour at hand.

They took us to the various rooms where the treatment is given by the students, always under the watchful eye of a professor, through a one-way mirror, ready to assist at a moments notice, as required. There were different rooms geared for preschoolers, children and adults. Treatment is designed for each individual patient.

Both the professors and the teaching students showed a love and dedication for the Speech Language Pathology program that they deliver in their description of what they do at the Leeper Clinic.
