Harmonize for Speech Bursary Awarded to University of Ottawa Speech-Language Pathology Masters Program Student
The Harmonize for Speech Bursary is awarded to a full-time student enrolled in the second year of the Master of Health Sciences in Speech-Language Pathology at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Ottawa that demonstrates financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa. Shown below is an extract from a letter to H4S from the most recent recipient (name withheld for privacy reasons), which is self-explanatory and illustrates your H4S donations at work:
“ …I am …recipient of the Harmonize for Speech Bursary at the University of Ottawa. I am currently a very busy second-year Master of Speech-Language Pathology student, wrapping up my final clinical placement. I am writing today to express my sincere gratitude for your generosity and support. This bursary has significantly eased the financial burden I’ve been experiencing as I work to complete my placement hours. … Prior to beginning this graduate program, I was working three jobs to save money. I had hoped those savings would carry me through, but by the beginning of my second year, I needed to take on part-time work to ease the growing financial strain. I was even considering taking on a second job when I received the email informing me that I had been selected as … recipient of the Harmonize for Speech Bursary. Thanks to your generosity, I am now able to focus more fully on my final placement. Speech and communication have had a profound impact on my life. I have always believed that communication is a fundamental human right, and I am deeply passionate about helping others find—or re-find—their voice. My commitment to this field is driven by a desire to promote equitable access to healthcare, especially for individuals who may face barriers in receiving the speech and language support they need. Being able to focus on my placement allows me to better prepare for a career where I can advocate for and support these individuals. Thanks to your generous support, I feel more confident and prepared to enter the field of speech-language pathology. I am excited to continue learning, growing, and working toward making a meaningful difference in the lives of others through communication…
