I hope that those who are reading this message will appreciate and understand what all barbershoppers have been experiencing since the beginning of Covid 19.

The following two messages from the Huntsville and Simcoe Chapters are what it’s all about for us. They both have stepped up to say that this pandemic is not going to stop them from supporting us to the best of their abilities. It is very heart warming to say the least.

Muskoka Music Men Update (Huntsville)

Long-time Muskoka Music Men quartet Two-Four Time has been socially-distanced rehearsing at Jim Mossman’s place and has a potential Christmas gig coming up in December.

A new socially-distance quartet – the Accidentals – has been rehearsing weekly since mid-july and has produced a CD of seasonal numbers (largely drawn from the Society’s Yuletide Favourites Volume 1) a copy of which has been sent to each of the usual stops on our traditional December “Seniors Caroling Tour”. The note that has gone out with the CD to Fairvern, Rogers Cove, Muskoka Traditions, Country Moments and the Home in Muskoka (Port Sydney) is attached. Please let me know of any other similar destinations where we might send a copy. Also attached is the “back story” on the quartet and the CD. And if anyone would like a copy of the CD, just let me know your snail mail address and I’ll entrust a copy to Canada Post. There is no cost for the CD to you or to the Chapter. But I will enclose a self addressed envelope to Harmonize For Speech , should you feel inclined to send a donation to our Ontario District Charity, the Harmonize For Speech Fund, that is very much experiencing the serious adverse financial consequences of COVID – 19.

Gentlemen of Harmony (Simcoe)

Hi Bruce,

It is with great pleasure that I forward to you cheques in the total amount of $1,530.00. Once again Simcoe Chapter members have shown their support for Harmonize For Speech. So the trustees can continue their work in getting money into the programs where funding is required.

Below is the note I sent out to chapter members.

Hi Guys,

Subject: Harmonize For Speech Donations

Yesterday you should have received an email from Ontario District. In this email was a report from George Shields (chairman and trustee of the Harmonize For Speech Fund). What George has emphasized is how drastic the donations to H4S have been reduced. Comparing end of September 2019 to now, the fund is down $23,369.00.

The trustees still want to fund as many worthy speech-related projects as possible.

Simcoe Chapter has been a very long standing supporter of H4S. Over that time, we have donated $143,875.90, 11th out of the 30 chapters listed. Our past 4 year average donation is $5;511.00, which includes personal donations and $2,000.00 donated directly from our chapter funds. So far in 2020, members and non members have donated $301.00.

There is a very good chance that we will not have our annual Christmas dinner, during this time you guys have been extremely generous with your support and donations to H4S.

So I am asking for Simcoe chapter members to donate and once again, support this worthy cause.

Thanks for your continued support!

Paul Malcomson,(Coordinator Harmonize For Speech Fund)
