Singing Out

Volume 10 Issue 2

What’s been happening at H4S?

The Harmonize For Speech Fund continues to be a major source of funding for universities, colleges, speech/language clinics and students studying speech/language pathology. Government funding for speech/language pathology appears to have disappeared, and we are seeing more requests than normal by organizations desperate for assistance.

We have still managed to fulfil our funding this year to the different sectors as follows:

Speech/language clinics, schools and services              61.7%

Universities and Colleges                                             19.4%

Speech / language Conferences                                    8.4%

Students                                                                       8.3%

Administration                                                              2.2%

TOTAL                                                                      100.0 %

On behalf of the York-Durham Aphasia Centre, and March of Dimes Canada, I would like to thank the Harmonize For Speech Fund once again for your generous donation of $1,500.00 to support people with aphasia.

For more than 20 years, the York-Durham Aphasia Centre (YDAC) has been providing residents of York and Durham regions and Peterborough with services to assist individuals with aphasia and other communication disorders to more effectively adapt to the condition and communicate with others once again. In 2010, YDAC became a program of March of Dimes Canada after a two-year merger, now giving aphasia sufferers easier access to March of Dimes' variety of programs and services for childsren and adults with disabilities.

Thank you for making a difference in so many peoples' lives.

Mary Lynne Stewart, Director of Fund Development & Communications

We are writing on behalf of the entire Kindergarten Language Program (KLP) team of the Toronto Catholic District School Board to express our gratitude to the Harmonize For Speech Fund for so generously supporting our KLP snack program with a gift of $1,000.00.

As you know, the objective of the KLP is to provide preventative, intensive oral language programmimg to senior kindergarten students. Through the snack program, students have had many opportunities to prepare and enjoy healthy snacks that relate to our daily theme. The snack program provides our students with a wonderful opportunity to use all of their senses while learning new vocabulary, following directions and practicing their oral language skills.

We are very thankful that our students have had the opportunity to participate in the snack program. They truly enjoyed it! Thank you so much for your support.

Thank you for your continuing commitment to helping those with speech and communication disorders.
